Did you know:
- Cape Town street art emerged in the Cape Flats in the 1980s
- Street art was once considered a nuisance, but now is admired as a wonderful expression of a wide range of issues such as social, political and environmental issues
- In District Six you’ll notice the mural of the former South African president Nelson Mandela, by prominent Cape Town artist Mak1one
- Nobel Square’s four bronze gentlemen, statues of the late Nkosi Albert Luthuli, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, former State President F.W. de Klerk and former President Nelson Mandela, reflect the puzzle of the search of an African identity post-apartheid
- Bo-Kaap is a historic area which thrived in the 19th century as an Islamic community after the abolition of slavery, famous for its colourful houses, steep cobbled streets and muezzin
- The Cape Town Stadium was designed so that at night, lit up against the black sky, it would appear to be a floating rose-shaped bowl and during the day, its fibreglass facade would reflect the ambience of the city, dependent on its weather; bright, sunny skies or dramatic grey clouds
